How can I view performance for all my students? - using diagnostic dashboards

NMEL allows you to have an instant view of how the students on a course are progressing, both in terms of the scores, but also behaviours – time spent, number of attempts. The NMEL diagnostic dashboards give you a vivid picture of the entire cohort. You access the dashboards from a tab on the gradebook screen.

Depending on your course you will be able to access some or all of the following graphs. (Sometimes a graph is not relevant, depending on the level and nature of a course).

Each thumbnail on the diagnostics screen links to a hierarchy of charts. You may traverse up and down the hierarchy, gaining a different level of detail at each view.

Analysis of time spent by students

This shows the time that each student has spent on practice, assignments and tests, and in total. You may limit the view by clicking on the legend and the graph bars will change their visibility.

From here you may click on a student name and see, for that student, how much time he or she has spent on each unit (again with visibility of practice assignment, tests and total)

Then by selecting a unit you can see all the activities within the unit with the same filters.

Analysis of average time spent on tasks

You use these charts to see which units have been tackled by your students, and the time they have been spending.

The top level chart shows time for each unit (with filters to restrict the practice, assignment and tests.

You can then select a unit to see the average time on task for each activity in the unit.

Finally if you select an activity (maybe one that displays unexpected results, you can see the time on task for individual students undertaking that activity.

Analysis of Skills

Analysis of Performance against specific skills

If you are wondering how you can access progress of your students measured by skills, this series of charts allows you to see the scores that have (so far) been recorded for each of the 6 skills.

At the top level the chart shows average scores for each of the skills.

You can then select one of those skills and you will see how the body of students have performed for the skill. For instance if average scores for grammar are lower than you expect you can find out which students may be struggling.

Analysis of scores and attempts

Using these charts you quickly and easily see how your students are performing based on the number of attempts they have taken for any activity.

The top-level chart shows you the average number of attempts made for each course unit and the score achieved to-date.

You can then “drill down” to see the same for the activities within a unit.

Finally you can drill down again for an activity and see how students have improved their scores with numbers of attempts
